Census Secret

More immigrants mean more money, power for some states

Louisiana Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter brought a dirty little secret to light with a proposal he made and saw shot down in the Senate.

Vitter wanted to add a question to next year’s U.S. Census forms asking about citizenship status.

Right now, the Census doesn’t ask whether or not an individual or family members are citizens or in the country as legal or illegal immigrants.

A procedural vote, 60-39, killed Vitter’s proposal.
