The heat and summer music scene are both rising as we dive into the heart of July.

Looking ahead, the dog days of summer have The Oak Ridge Boys returning to the area. They've been no strangers to the Ark-La-Tex in recent years, but they're headed back here again to headline the 40th annual Hope Watermelon Festival on August 13.

Joining the Oak Ridge crew is Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell, who presents a special opening performance. You can get advance tickets for $15, reserved seats for $40. Check it out at UACCH.edu.

Some of the hardest working local metalheads around, Sylo, play a local Shooters Sports Bar show Sunday in support of the industrial/metal touring act Element a440. Taranis joins the bill, too. For Sylo, it's a special show because they'll introduce their new drummer.

Sylo sounds excited to introduce their new member, noting on their Facebook page that they had plenty of tryouts for the position.

"We had an overwhelming amount of responses and are very flattered, and would have heard each and every one of you, but sometimes you get a gut feeling about someone. Our newest member is one of those cases," Sylo wrote to its fans. Sylo wants to see them out there-horns up-Sunday at Shooters.

Other shows up ahead include the Texarkana Showcase show at The Arrow Bar on July 16. K-Tea Callahan, Blake Felix, Chace Rains, Teddy Literal, Joey Mills, Claire Doreen, Chase Livingston and Jeffery Scott Greer are lined up to play. Art is a new aspect of this show, and you'll see fine work from Brian Jones, Natalie Habenicht and Shane Roden.

That same weekend, enjoy two of the most popular bands playing on the Texarkana circuit over at Fat Jack's Oyster and Sports Bar when Pot Liquor plays Friday, July 15, and Relentless plays Saturday, July 16. The latter show will help you unwind those wild summer vibes as it's a luau party.

And Wade Bowen fans take note. This super popular Texas country act is back here at Scottie's Grill on July 29. Tickets are available at Outhouse Tickets.
