RailFest set for today, Saturday downtown

RailFest details have been difficult to find, but according to Facebook pages associated with the event, it's happening today and Saturday at Front Street Festival Plaza.

Tonight's lineup includes the band Firewater at 8 p.m. Wild West shows, vendors and activities for the kids will be part of the festival both days. The festival is free.

Saturday's lineup includes Larry Silver, a comedian hypnotist with a family-friendly and interactive show. He's billed as "never offensive-always hysterical." He'll perform after the comedy ventriloquist act of Marc Rubben, which starts at 6:30 p.m. Rubben uses stand-up in his act and has performed on Carnival Cruise Lines and at the 2007 HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival.

Performing Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. will be locals Vernon Hinesley and Texas Heat. Earlier in the day, Blane Howard will perform an acoustic solo show starting at 2 p.m. Howard, now in Nashville, grew up in South Arkansas. The festival ends at 10 p.m. Saturday.

Also happening today and Saturday is the grand opening of Texarkana's Old Town, which will conduct its first public tours. It's located upstairs from the Lindsay Railroad Museum at 202 E. Broad St.

Second Saturday Trade Days and tours of the former Ritchie Grocery Building, now called the 1894 City Market, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday near Front Street Festival Plaza. Danny Helms is this month's featured artist. Musical entertainment, authors, vendors, food and more are part of this monthly event.
