Nov. 27, 1917:
HIGH SCHOOL PAPER
to COME OUT SOON

The Texas high school paper will come out next week. The young editor and his assistants are working to make this the best high school paper that Texas High has ever had. Each class has a representative on the staff. Cecil Mitchell, one of our Rose Hill boys, is editor-in-chief; David Tilson is assistant editor. Harold Beck is business manager and Gerald Weary assistant.

Nov. 28:
ATLANTA COUPLE WED

Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock, G.H. Chamblee and Miss Oma Spiva, both of Atlanta, Texas, were united in marriage at the parsonage of the First (Arkansas) Methodist Church. Rev. P.C. Fletcher officiating. The bride was for some time connected with the high school faculty of Atlanta. The groom is a prosperous planter. The ceremony was witnessed by Miss Fannie Hardy McCoy, Herbert Fouche and Jewell McGhee, of this city.

MAKE YOUR DREAMS COUNT

There are two kinds of dreamers-the dreamer who merely dreams and the dreamer who puts his dreams into deeds. If a man has dreams but does not act upon them, he has accomplished little at the end of his days. Whereas a man who works hard to make them there dreams become reality will at his days' end look back and have accomplished his dreams and had a fulfilled life. All of the world's great facts grew out of some man's or some woman's dream-a dream cherished and made into a reality.

REPAIRING the O'DWYER BUILDING

Work of repairing the old O'Dwyer building at Vine and Broad streets is progressing; a new front is being put on, with new steel beams and new columns, and was learned yesterday that the building will be put in first class condition in every particular.

FORMER COTTON BUYER
MAKES SECOND LIEUTENANT

J.J. Hooks, well known cotton buyer of this city, has just received a message from Camp Beauregard, La., telling of the success of a young cotton buyer who worked in Texarkana for a period of two years, E.G. Hopkins of Nashville, and who is well-known here. The young man advised Mr. Hooks he had been appointed a second lieutenant and that he desired his many friends in Texarkana to know about it.

Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Phipps are being congratulated upon the birth of a son here Monday.
Mrs. Thomas F. Booker will go to Little Rock Monday to visit Mrs. Thomas Lafferty.
Miss Lottie Conway was hostess of an informal dinner Wednesday evening for Mrs. James K. Jones of Washington, D.C.
Lt. Armine Gauat arrived from Camp Pike Thursday to spend 10 days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.N. Gauat.

YOUNG RAILMAN WEDS

W.A. Smith, a recent addition to the ticket office force of the union station, last night was married to Miss Nona Bryant of Otterville, Mo., the license having been issued by the clerk of Miller County yesterday afternoon. The ceremony was performed at the Congregational parsonage by Rev. F.E. Maddox.

COUNCIL VOTES TO JOIN
OTHER CITY GOVERMENTS

A motion was approved Monday night by the Texarkana, Texas, City Council to join with other metropolitan cities in the ARK-TX Council of Governments. The Council of governments will be made up of local and area city governments that work together on problems that concern this area. Cass, Red River, Bowie and Miller Counties are included in the council. In other businesses, a request by Mrs. V. Hall for a zoning change at 3800 Magnolia St., was referred to the Board of Adjustments. Mrs. Hall requested that her property be rezoned from 1st dwelling to local business.

Nov. 28:
SCOUTS TO APPEAR WITH SINGER

Senior Girl Scouts of Troop 10 have been members of singer Jack Stone's fan club for several years, and now some of the girls will appear with him in a variety show Dec. 2 at the Liberty-Eylau High School gym. The girls will appear with Stone. Susan McCamley and Gwen Malone, along with other scouts, will appear with Stone and Jeanette Hicks. This is the last year in scouting for most of the troop, and they are making plans to visit Washington, D.C. next spring as one of their last outings.

PHOTOS OF HOTEL GRIM CONSTRUCTION TO BE SHOWN

There are a number of pictures that will be shown by Vasco McCoy at the annual dinner Dec. 9 at the Texarkana Pioneer Association celebrating the 94th birthday of Texarkana. There will be pictures of the final stages of construction of Hotel Grim on downtown section. The dinner will be held in the Palm room of the Grim, beginning with a reception at 5 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL BAND
ENTERTAINS VETERANS

The Maud High School Stage Band, under the direction of Bandmaster Ewing Burgess, recently entertained patents at the Veterans Administration Domiciliary in Bonham, Texas. The trip was sponsored by State Line Pup Tent N.O. number 24, Military Order of the Cooties. Mrs. Debbie Burgess was featured in a special Spanish dance and tap number. The Maud Rockettes presented several dance and twirling numbers. Hostesses were Mrs. Claude Phillips, Mrs. Lee Oma Harman and Mrs. Reggie Harrell. Douglas B. Thomas, Cootie district commander, donated books for patients.

NORTH SEGMENT OF
INTERSTATE TO OPEN TODAY

Interstate 30 will be open from Homan to Fulton, a distance of 6.06 miles, at 8 a.m. Friday, according the announcement by the Arkansas Highway Department. This stretch of I-30 will extent from Homan to intersect with U.S. Highway 67 North of Red River. Grading for this portion of the interstate project was done by W.R. Fairchild LTD., at a cost of $380,551, and by Dixieco Inc., at a cost of $ 813,250. Hallett Construction Co. was the contractor for the surfacing, and the cost was $ 1,074,309. The bridge over Red River was constructed by E.E. Barber Co., at a cost of $2,079,126.

NAMED TO WHO'S WHO

WALDO, Ark.-Robert Henderson, son of Mrs. Daisy Helen Henderson and Miss Margaret Lee Perritt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Perritt, all of Waldo, have been named to Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges at Southern State College in Magnolia, Ark. Henderson, a Junior pre-med major has held the Banner News and Academic scholarships. Mrs. Perritt, a junior English major with a minor in journalism, won the Mrs. Arkansas Young Republican for 67-68.

Thirty students at Texas Senior High School were honored this week by the Mu Alpha Theta International high school and junior college mathematics club.
