Texarkana native Shambrekia Wise has self-published a new romance novel. Titled "Last Stop Dupont Circle," the novel is a story of love lost and found as experienced by the protagonist Chas, a college-educated black professional in her 30s who's negotiating love and life against the backdrop of the affluent city of Potomac, Md.

Nicoleté Austin is the pen name for Austin, Texas-based Wise, a 32-year-old native of Texarkana, Texas. Here in Texarkana as she grew up, Wise excelled at subjects like science, technology, engineering and math. Her talents there gave her a foundation for the career she developed in healthcare. They also inspired her entrepreneurial work.

"I wanted to show a different slice of life that captured affluent African-Americans in a societal norm that used class as an entry point and backdrop for storytelling," the author said. "I thought it was important to explore this idea of 'Black love,' which remains elusive for some African-American women of a certain education level and socio-economic background."

The book is available on Amazon.com, $16.99 for paperback and $9.99 on Kindle.
