Texarkana Repertory Co. looks ahead to its next season Thursday evening with a 6 p.m. party at Silvermoon on Broad.

Annually, TexRep announces the lineup for next season's shows at its party late in the current season, which is set to conclude with "Peter and the Star Catcher" in February. This upcoming season will be the 28th for TexRep. Expect variety for this new season.

"Most of the titles will be familiar to the audience, especially the spring musical that opens the season," said TexRep's Susannah Morriss Linnett, board president. "It's a fairly new show that was huge on Broadway that I think people will be super excited about; plus, it features a large cast so plenty of opportunities for people interested in auditioning."

This past season opened with "The Little Mermaid" and included "Rabbit Hole" and "The Outsiders."

"This past season was a lot of fun, and we had great feedback from audiences. We were particularly proud to have been able to do four full weekday matinee performances of our last show, 'The Outsiders,' for high school and middle school students," Linnett said. "Our terrific director, Michael Cooper, feels it's very important to have at least one show in each season we can have as an 'educational slot' and this year we had several new schools from all over the area attend because of those extra performances we offer at a reduced cost for students."

For the non-profit TexRep, member support is vital to the organization's success. Regular and family membership levels are available, and memberships can save people money compared to buying individual tickets. Also available are Producing and TexRep 200 level memberships.

"I think now more than ever, it's important for people to support organizations like TexRep that provide quality theatre in our community," Linnett said. "With fewer arts classes and programs in schools due to funding cuts and national cuts to the arts in general, not just theatre, it's vital that there are places that people can experience the magic of live theatre. It's something magical that TV, films, and especially online content can't replace. So the memberships make that happen."

Memberships can be purchased at the TexRep annual party. Hors d'oeuvres will be served, and Michael Cooper, TexRep's artistic director, will announce the shows for this upcoming season.

"We're really, really excited about it," Linnett said.
