IDABEL, Okla.-The Museum of the Red River will close for two weeks because of work being done to the museum's roof and air conditioning system.

The museum will close Saturday through July 31. MoRR plans to provide further updates on its social media pages and website. It is hoped that construction at the museum, which will give MoRR 45,000 square feet of space and a glass pyramid that is to become the building's facade, will be finished this fall. Other improvements include a bigger classroom, renovations to the Learning Center and an updated museum store.

The exhibit "Arts of the Southwest" also recently opened at the museum. Art originating from the American Southwest is featured, covering prehistoric to contemporary times. Weaving, wood carving, jewelry-making and pottery are among the artistic traditions represented in the American Southwest. This exhibit runs through Aug. 19.

About 30,000 cultural objects from six continents are housed at MoRR. Other attractions include Oklahoma's state dinosaur, an Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. More info: MuseumoftheRedRiver.org or 580-286-3616.
