Remember when ... Schools had no indoor toilets

I am old enough to remember when my school did not have an indoor toilet.

Two small, separate buildings were located away from the school's main building.

One was for the boys, and one was for the girls.

They were all wooden structures and well built. The stools were located over a concrete pit. The pit could be cleaned out by shovel from outside. In warm weather, lime was spread by hand over the pit as needed to prevent any odors.

Security was a wooden latch inside the door.
