Live music: Fine like a muscadine

Warmer weather, an end to heavy rains and the first flurry of jonquils all add up to spring vibes falling blissfully upon us, which we can naturally celebrate with fine live music.

Good music and the regenerative powers of spring should be the best of friends for a day or night out in Texarkana, and that's true tonight with the return of Whiskey Myers to town. They'll perform at Texarkana's Scottie's Grill with Muscadine Bloodline also on the bill.

The thought of whiskey and wine and prettier weather outdoors all add up to a sensory overload of the most delightful kind, and musically it will be a heady mix. Muscadine Bloodline are an up-and-coming young country band from Nashville with proud Alabama roots. A duo, they profess to mix Southern rock with '90s-style country love song sounds.

Whiskey Myers are out on their Hurry Up and Wait Tour, which includes some large cities on the schedule in addition to Texarkana by the time it winds down in September for these guys hailing from the Palestine and Tyler, Texas, area, with influences ranging from Lynyrd Skynyrd to The Allman Brothers.

Get your tickets at OuthouseTickets.com: $30 in advance or $35 day of show for reserved seats, $15 in advance or $20 day of show for general admission. It all kicks off at 7 p.m.

The headliner and supporting acts for CASA's Songwriters on the Edge of Texas concert have been announced, and it's Bob Schneider leading the bill with Warren Hood Duo and local act The Moss Brothers performing this annual top notch benefit for CASA's work with kids.

Annually, Songwriters on the Edge brings Texarkana some of the best live music around with the focus on gifted Texas songwriters regaling the crowd at Northridge Country Club.

In Schneider, that commitment to fine songwriting is readily apparent. Schneider's a uniquely eclectic, longtime Austin-based musician who translates emotional truths with keen storytelling skills and genuine passion.

Schneider and the supporting acts will perform on Sunday, April 15, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75. There's a tiny house giveaway and, on Monday, the golf tournament. More info and tickets: CasaTexarkana.org/songwriters and 903-792-1030.

Another big show on the horizon is Travis Tritt's April 6 concert at Hempstead Hall in Hope, Ark. Tritt last performed in Texarkana several years ago, and for this show he'll bring his band and perform those huge hits he's scored in more than two decades as a country musician, during which time he's reeled in two Grammy Awards.

The Georgia native found fame starting in the 1990s, and his most recent release is "A Man and His Guitar-Live From the Franklin Theatre."

Tickets for Tritt range from $20 to $75, and you can get them at HempsteadHall.com or call 870-722-8565.
