Cellphone cases are highly customizable these days, meaning you can opt for a standard-issue, stalwart cover or have protection and prettiness in one perfect case.

The great thing about phone cases is how a woman can have the best of both worlds with LifeProof and OtterBox offering rugged styles and cases that are fashionable yet functional, said Jennifer Prentice, assistant store manager at Best Buy in Texarkana.

"Here at Best Buy, it is not about selling the hottest thing on the market, but about seeing selling the product our customer wants and needs," she said.

Hence, the retailer carries an array of cellphone cases to primarily fit iPhone X and above, Samsung 8 and above, and a few Google Pixel cases, she said.

Even the amount of protection is customizable, depending on needs.

Different levels of cases exist. LifeProof's Next case, for example, is a thin but wide option. In contrast, LifeProof's Slam case offers the top tier of defense against damage and drops, combined with cutouts for easy access to all ports and buttons, Jennifer said.

OtterBox has a similar setup with its Commuter style, having a mix of scratch and impact protection, according to Android Central. The line's Symmetry case is slim, yet protective.

Drop ratings are important to consider when buying a case, Jennifer says.

The LifeProof Tech 21 case has a military-grade drop rating of about 10 to 20 feet for the case to stay intact.

Best Buy also carries cases from Kate Spade, Speck and Case Mate that have really great drop ratings while offering a lot more style options, Jennifer said.

Shock absorption is also a factor.

Jennifer said tempered-glass is an absolute must on a phone and they sell it with just about every case.

It offers an extra layer of protection.

"With the majority of people coming in to replace a phone, it is usually because of a broken screen," she said.

Some women have more than one phone case, Jennifer said.

"Nowadays with phones coming in so many different colors. you can personalize your phone to your personality," she said.

Or, phones can speak for themselves as they now come in specialty colors now like rose gold. Because of this, some people are opting for clear cases to show off their phones. Best Buy also sells house brands like Insignia, Platinum and Under Armour.

Prices for phone cases range from about $20 to more than $100, depending on the brand and specifications.

"The biggest thing we tell our female customers is look at your lifestyle. If you are someone who is on the go or someone who uses your phone a lot, consider a battery-pack case."

And not everyone needs a big and bulky case.

"When it comes to phone cases, they are super personal," Jennifer said, adding that customers should try a few cases to see which is best for them.

And look to a variety of places for inspiration in phone cases, particularly when it comes to fun and funky patterns.

Walmart carries the kurl line that lets the phone shine through, but with subtle patterns. Some include ice cream and the moon and stars.

In addition to local retailers, good outlets for phone cases include etsy and Amazon.
