HandsOn Texarkana, The New Volunteer Center, offers volunteer opportunities in the community and refers prospective volunteers to appropriate agencies and volunteer groups. Alzheimer's Alliance needs people knowledgeable of Alzheimer's Disease to answer the HelpLine evenings and weekends, and volunteers for light clerical work, fundraisers and other events. Call 903-223-8021.

 

American Cancer Society needs volunteers for its Road to Recovery program which provides transportation for cancer patients to their appointments. Mileage reimbursement is available. Must have reliable vehicle, valid drivers license, proof and insurance and pass a background check. Call 903-597-1383.

 

American Red Cross needs welcome team volunteers at the Texarkana office who can work 4 hour shifts at least one day each week greeting and directing visitors, answering the phone and assisting with filing. Arkansas Department of Community Correction is looking for volunteers to assist with answering multi-line telephone, directing calls, making copies, filing and scanning documents, tutoring GED skills to offenders, and registering offenders in Agency programs. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), a non-profit organization, is in need of volunteers to help the abused and neglected children in an 8 county area in Texas and Arkansas. CASA volunteers speak up for a child in court, they are the voice that makes a difference in a child's life. Volunteers get to know the children and everyone who is involved with the child. Information sessions are at the office at 1201 Main, Texarkana, Tx. the first Tuesday and second Thursday of each month at 9:30 am and 5:30 pm.
