TEXARKANA, Texas — For both the fall and spring semesters, Texarkana College's music department conducts a series of concerts to showcase the department and share great music with the community.

Concerts are open to the public and feature both local musicians and top players from elsewhere, such as cellist Alex Hersh, who helps usher in the fall 2019 series in a couple of weeks. He will perform accompanied by TC's Mary Scott Goode, professor of music.

Here's a snapshot look at what's coming this semester:

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 7:30 p.m. — National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Competition in Strings 2019 winner Alex Hersh on cello with Mary Scott Goode, piano, at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Co-sponsored by the AR-TX Music Connection and the Allegro Club. Admission: free.

Friday, Sept. 27, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. — The Conlon Nancarrow Conference for New Music, opening session at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Suggested donation for both days: $10.

Saturday, Sept. 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Nancarrow Conference continuing sessions and lunch at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Co-sponsored by the Regional Music Heritage Center.

Monday, Oct. 7, 7 p.m. — TC Music and Movies, "Big Bangs of Music: Notation" at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Admission: free.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m. — "Autumn in Paris" presented by the Texarkana Regional Chorale and TC choir program at the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Tri-State Iron & Metal Atrium. Admission: free.

Tuesday, Oct. 22, 11 a.m. — TC Student Recital at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Admission: free.

Monday, Nov. 4, 7 p.m. — TC Music and Movies, "Mozart's Requiem." Directed by John Eliot Gardiner and performed on period instruments at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Admission: free.

Thursday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. — James Herrin Piano Festival Guest Artist Recital with John Solomon, pianist, at the Truman Arnold Center Great Room. Co-sponsored by Judy Morgan and the Allegro Club. Admission: free.

Wednesday, Nov. 20, 9:30 a.m. — TC Student Recital at Stilwell Humanities Music Hall. Admission: free.

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. — TRC/TC choir Christmas program "The Glory of Bach" at Williams Memorial Methodist Church. Admission: free, donations accepted.
