A domestic elephant stands by a 10-year-old wild tusker with a rear leg injury Wednesday in a marshy area of Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, about 25 miles east of Gauhati, India. Veterinarians are nursing the injured male elephant, whom villagers spotted stuck about five days ago. The juvenile elephant's situation is becoming a common occurrence in the state, which has a large population of wild elephants, some of which are straying out of their herds and entering swampy areas and villages.
