Two die in fiery collision

Two people were killed in an accident Tuesday night on South Lake Drive near Caddo Street, according to Texas-side police.

Shawn Vaughn, Texarkana, Texas, police spokesman, said at presstime Tuesday that the double fatality collision took place on Lake Drive between Caddo and Buchanan Road. Vaughn suggested that those driving in this area choose an alternate route.

"The single car involved was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate the curve, struck a tree after leaving the roadway and burst into flames," Vaughn said.

Texas-side Fire Chief Eric Schlotter said Texarkana, Texas, Fire Department responded to the accident just before 10 p.m., and Battalion Chief Michael Gilley said police were working the scene as they put the fire out.
