A man who allegedly shot a Texarkana College baseball player at a local night club pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of first-degree battery. Octavion Lamar Smith, 18, is alleged to have shot Mike Pender after a verbal altercation in the early morning hours of Jan. 13 at the Coyote Club in Texarkana, Ark. He is in the custody of Miller County authorities. Coby Wells, part owner of the club, told police he was alerted to a group of males with long braided hair flashing gang signs on the dance floor, according to court documents.
