Miller County judge lops lawyers largesse in train derailment lawsuit

Two law firms argued Monday in court over their share of a $2 million settlement in the case of a Texarkana woman who died in the 2005 train derailment. ‘Im not sure anybody has earned three quarters of a million dollars’ Miller County Circuit Judge Jim Hudson said during proceedings on Monday. Of the approximately $2 million Union Pacific Railroad agreed to pay as compensation for the wrongful death of Pearlie Mae Easter Marshall, more than $700,000, or one-third, will go to lawyers. The rest of the money will be divided between Marshalls children and siblings.
