Officials move to protect drug court funding

President Bushs proposed budget for 2008 zeroes out funding for drug courts nationwide. Judges and lawmakers are taking steps to get the funding reinstated while searching for alternative sources to pay for the courts. Miller County Circuit Judge Joe Griffin, who runs Miller Countys drug court, recently made trips to Washington and Little Rock to rally support for drug court legislation in Arkansas. ‘The purpose of the Washington visit was partly to get Congress to reinstate national funding for drug courts within the Department of Justice’ Griffin said. ‘Bush has eliminated ...
