By Jim Williamson Texarkana Gazette A hiring freeze and a moratorium on spending was implemented Monday night by the Miller County Quorum Court because the money in reserve is dwindling. The action is part of a non-binding resolution.

District 6 Justice of the Peace Ernest Pender said the available money to appropriate in the general fund is currently $110,787. The county will receive $165,000 in state turnback money, which can only be appropriated at 98 percent. Also, Gov. Mike Beebe fund has earmarked the county to receive $41,000 from his discretionary fund.
