Man dies in collision with train

Semi trucks cab was hurtled 250 feet down railroad tracks


Staff photo by Paige Milton The cab of a semi truck was pushed about 250 feet down the track during a truck and train collision Wednesday morning in Maud, Texas. The wreck killed the truck driver, and the trains engineer was taken to a Texarkana hospital for minor injuries.
MAUD, Texas A semi truck driver was killed Wednesday morning when his truck and a train collided here, sending debris flying as far as 270 feet away from the crash scene. Thomas Ross Sims, 24, of Daingerfield was driving a truck carrying wood chips from Ward Timbers Maud sawmill about 8 a.m. when he attempted to cross the railroad tracks onto U.S. Highway 67. Texas Department of Public Safety Officer Kelly McKinnie said Sims truck was on the tracks and moving when it was struck by the westbound train. He said audio and visual signals were activated, including the trains horn and light.
