Days Gone By: Song, curious toddler bring teenagers together


Staff photo by John Fooks Dorothy and Leo Hughes met in the Rose Hill community when she was 15 and he was 17. The couple was married 72 years ago today on April 21, 1935.
Local couple celebrates 72nd anniversary today Dorothy ‘Dot Finleys 5-year-old brother, Harry, was playing in the front yard of their Rose Hill home when he heard lilting music and singing drifting from the front porch of a young couples house three doors down. The child forgot his orders to remain in the front yard of his own home and tottered over to where the music was. Guy Ward sat on the swing with his wife, Bertie, as they listened to Berties 17-year-old brother, Leo Hughes, sing as he strummed his new guitar.
