Mentors to encourage Hooks High School students to continue their educations

HOOKS, Texas Hooks High School students will have more encouragement to attend college, thanks to a new mentoring program. Volunteer mentors and students will have an orientation session today at 3 p.m. to prepare for the program, sponsored by the Grace Forte Gouldsby Scholarship Foundation. The foundation is named for a former Hooks teacher who taught for more than 40 years. Stephanie Blakely, a member of the foundation and Hooks graduate, said the program targets freshmen and sophomores and pairs them with volunteer mentors who are college graduates and former Hooks graduates.
