Aid no longer frozen for local farmers
A hard, late-season freeze in April means many Arkansas counties have been designated a natural disaster area. Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns approved the decision May 18, making all qualified farm operators in those areas eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the USDAs Farm Service Agency. Arkansas counties marked as disaster zones are Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River and Nevada. Also eligible because they are contiguous counties are Columbia, Miller and Sevier counties in Arkansas, Bowie County in Texas, McCurtain County in Oklahoma and Bossier and Caddo parishes ...
