MURFREESBORO, Ark.—A Delight, Ark., girls basketball coach charged with first-degree sexual assault won’t go on trial until January. The trial for Chad D. Smith, 27, of Delight was originally scheduled for Aug. 20, but his lawyer, Jeff Harrelson of Texarkana, asked for the continuance. Ninth Circuit Court Judge Charles Yeargan granted it Wednesday. Yeargan reset the court date to Jan. 14 for a pre-trial hearing and Jan. 31 for the trial. The charge stems from allegations of sexual conduct with a student over several months.
