Coal plant leaves officials with a hard decision

The Arkansas Attorney General’s office recommends some rate-payer protections if a coal-fueled power plant in Hempstead County is approved, according to a case docket brief and testimony at Monday’s public hearing.

Speaking at the Arkansas Public Service Commission’s final public hearing on the matter Monday, Shawn McMurray of the attorney general’s office said the request for Southwestern Electric Power Co.’s plant presents some difficult issues.
