Archaeology, heritage fair sheds light on history

Local historic locations, items and lifestyles were a fun focus Saturday at the sixth annual Archaeology and Heritage Fair held at Spring Lake Park.

“Six archaeologists were here and people really enjoy getting to talk to them about things they have found in the area,” said Ina McDowell, director of the Texarkana Museums System.

McDowell said favorites from the day included a cow milking exhibition with the Mobile Dairy Classroom, a booth on canning and butter making.

“We had a great turnout today with several hundred coming to the fair,” said McDowell. ...
