Over the last several weeks, Texarkana Ark., School District’s literacy magnet school, Union Elementary, has had an artist-in-residence. The students created a video titled “Our School Through the Eyes of the Students,” said visiting artist Don Shaw. Shaw, a professional sculptor and media artist, went to the school to help fourth-grade students learn the ins and outs of video art. Shaw’s visit, made possible by the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council through its ArtsSmart program, gave students the skills needed to write, produce and edit their own video production.
