City provides aid to houses needing improvements

The City of Texarkana, Ark., is wrapping up its 2007 housing improvement projects.

The city requests state funding each year to assist low-income citizens living in poor conditions. Depending on the structure’s condition, some houses are rehabilitated, while others are torn down and rebuilt.

Home rehabs and reconstructions are funded by a grant from the Arkansas Development Finance Authority.

Projects must be done in units of five, so this year the city performed three reconstructions and two rehabs. The maximum provided for the year’s work is $425,000.
