Harrelson to fight tax with report

The first report on additional revenue received by the State of Arkansas through the Streamlined Sales Tax Act will be ready next month and state Rep. Steve Harrelson, D-Texarkana, is prepared to use it as ammunition.

To join SSTA, the state implemented a uniform tax code and cost Texarkana the sales tax exemptions it held as a border city. Shoppers on the Arkansas side now pay a 7 percent tax on food, food ingredients and over-the-counter medications.
