Three miles of SWEPCO copper cable stolen along railroad tracks

DE QUEEN, Ark.—The copper capers continue with an estimated 3 miles of copper cable stolen along the D&E Railroad tracks.

The theft was discovered Thursday when the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department received an anonymous call saying some people in a blue car were taking wire from a Southwestern Electric Power Co. “high line.” The power line had been disconnected from its electricity source.

Sheriff deputies arrived at the locations and it appeared someone had been pulling the wire to the ground and cutting the wire off as high as they could reach, said Partain.
