Veterinarian: Horses were starving

Fultz, who is facing animal cruelty charges, says he fed the animals

The veterinarian who examined the seized horses and burros at the center of a Miller County animal cruelty case testified Wednesday that the animals were suffering from starvation and other preventable maladies.

The animals belonged to Harles Fultz, who is on trial facing 12 counts of animal cruelty.

“They were real starved down,” said Dr. Jim Kunkel, a veterinarian with 20 years’ experience. “The pattern of chemistry that’s emerging in this group of horses points to starvation and malnourishment. In my medical opinion, it’s just bad husbandry.”
