Supporters petition governor

HOPE, Ark.— A petition bearing 3,000 signatures showing support for the AEP/SWEPCO power plant in Hemptead County has been delivered to Gov. Mike Beebe.

Although Beebe has yet to respond, the petition, which was signed by people in the region, supports permitting and construction of the proposed John W. Turk Jr. power plant near Fulton, Ark.

“We haven’t received any comment from the governor,” Wesley Woodard, president of the Hempstead County Economic Development Corp., said Wednesday morning.
