Hope, Ark., will host one of seven public hearings the Arkansas Department of Education is holding to get input on a new code of conduct for state educators, the department reports.

A proposed $100 fee for a new license or a five-year renewal will be discussed. Arkansas educators have not had to pay for licensing in the past.

About 28 states already charge for teacher licenses and the fees range from $30 in South Dakota and Montana to a $175 fee in Michigan.
