Jane Newton was delivering the Texarkana Gazette in Maud, Texas, about 1 a.m. Thursday when she thought she saw flames.

She stopped her car and looked again.

“I thought maybe I’m not seeing what I’m seeing. Then it definitely looked like a fire,” said Newton.

The flames she saw were coming from inside a mobile home on Pecan Street.

After banging on the mobile home with her fists, Newton was finally able to rouse the family of three sleeping inside. They escaped without injuries.
