Death penalty still on the table for capital murder case

The conviction of a man sentenced to die for capital murder by a Bowie County jury in 2003 will stand, according to a ruling handed down Wednesday by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

Chris Wayne Shuffield, 28, was convicted of the July 28, 2001, shooting death of 36-year-old Lance Luke Walker of Simms, Texas.

Shuffield was just 21 when he fired three bullets into Walker’s head, killing him instantly.

Chris Shuffield, his brother Billy Shuffield and Walker were drinking beer and playing darts when the murder was committed.
