A $20,000 state grant will help upgrade severe weather sirens in Texarkana, Ark., and the money will be presented to the city Monday.

After only one of the half-dozen sirens in the city worked during storms last month, officials made a game plan to repair or replace the non-working systems.

Repairs are expected to run about $3,000 per tower and replacement systems can range from $25,000 to $40,000.

Just days after the storm, the city applied for the grant from the Arkansas House of Representative’s General Improvement Fund.
