Giving meth addicts a fighting chance at recovery through medicines being developed and traditional addiction programs is the goal of an Arkansas scientist.

“Meth addiction is a long-term, recurring addiction,” said Dr. Michael Owens, a researcher and professor at The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. “Sixty percent of addicts say they can’t quit.”

Owens said he is just a few years away from asking for permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct testing on humans of a vaccine for meth.
