Local Junior League donates 1,200 books to students

Kilpatrick Elementary School children received free books Monday as part of Spring into Reading, a program of the Junior League of Texarkana.

The kids were treated to a pep rally by Arkansas High School football players, cheerleaders and band members to get them pumped up about reading. Later, more than 1,200 books were distributed to kids in prekindergarten through the fourth grade. Children in the first through fourth grades received three books each. Prekindergarten students received a single book, said Diane Babb, co-chair of Spring into Reading.
