Car flies apart after striking pole

Driver has crushed leg, head injuries

Texas-side residents near Woodland Apartments on College Drive heard a loud noise Thursday morning. They thought it might be a train derailment or a blown electrical transformer, but it turned out to be a car accident.

A 2002 red Mustang, eastbound on College Drive, slammed into an electric pole and bounced off the metal and wooden railroad trestles at the underpass just west of Texas Boulevard, police said.

The car, driven by 20-year-old Joncee Whited, eventually landed on the east side of the railroad underpass.
