What was going to be a fist fight escalated into a wreck and then a fatal shooting near Hope, Ark., early Saturday morning, Hempstead County authorities said.

Steve Lynn Dean Jr., 18, of Hope, was shot in the chest with a shotgun and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Medical Park Hospital in Hope, said Hempstead County Sheriff Office Chief Deputy James Singleton.

“According to witnesses, prior to the accident several people had gathered at a fast food business in Hope, and some in the group agreed to meet outside the city for a possible fight,” he said.
