Man pleads guilty to crossbow death
A Nash, Texas, man who killed his friend and neighbor with a crossbow in 2006 pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday afternoon and received a 15-year prison term as part of a plea agreement.
James Leonard Shope, 50, appeared before 202nd District Judge Leon Pesek for a pretrial hearing regarding his case on Monday morning. At that time, Shope still refused to accept the offer of 15 years for manslaughter from the state despite facing five to 99 years or life if convicted by a jury of the June 24, 2006, death of Jerry Don Parker.
