Defender in rape case seeks new attorney
A De Queen, Ark., man charged with rape and kidnapping wants a new attorney instead of the public defender.
Jesus Tapia, 25, is scheduled to return to court June 5 with a new attorney. He appeared in Sevier County Circuit Court May 8, saying he wanted to hire an attorney instead of using Sevier County Public Defender Norman Cox. “The family wanted a private attorney instead of a public defender,” said Cox.
