Bowie County gets racial profiling report
NEW BOSTON—Deputies with the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office reported made a total of 572 traffic stops during 2007, according to data reported to the commissioners court last week.
Of the 572 traffic stops, 75 were of African-Americans motorists, which accounted for about 18 percent of the stops. About 73 percent of the stop were of whites (caucasians), while the rest were classified as Hispanics, the report showed. The sheriff’s office conducts the annual report to determine if the traffic stops are in proportion to the county’s racial and ethnic population.
