Residents raise money for Texarkana AIDS Walk

A group of fund-raisers lead the way Saturday morning in the first Texarkana AIDS Walk sponsored by Special Health Services at Spring Lake Park.

About 35 people joined in the walk to raise money to be used by Special Health Services to provide free tests for sexually transmitted diseases and treat patients.

What the walk lacked in numbers it made up in tenacity and excitement.

Doyle Carter, 44, of Texarkana, Texas, raised $400 by calling and e-mailing his friends and family.
