Group seeks to record lost graves

Abandoned cemetery crowded by housing additions

A memorial wreath consisting of a rusted wire ring and scraps of material that used to be flowers hangs precariously on the branch of a fallen tree. Beneath the log is the grave of World War II veteran Curlin Dudley Ivery.

Moving farther into the woods, members of the Texarkana USA Genealogical Society wipe away years of dirt and leaves to reveal another veteran’s headstone, this one marking the resting place of Pfc. Stone W. Jeffery.
