Sevier County prisoners were recently bused from the Miller County jail in Texarkana, Ark., to the new Sevier County jail in De Queen, Ark.

Having the new jail will save $10,000 to $12,000 a month, said Sevier County Sheriff John Partain.

“This will free up a lot of money a month by not having to pay other jails to house our prisoners,” he said.

The prisoners were transferred to the new jail May 12. The Miller County jail was keeping about 20 Sevier County prisoners because the old jail didn’t have enough room.
