A Hempstead County reserve deputy has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a woman near Millwood Lake.

Jeffery L. Mayle, 47, of Hope, Ark., remains in the Hempstead County jail awaiting a first court appearance on the charge of rape, said Hempstead County Sheriff Chief Deputy James Singleton.

A 39-year-old Hempstead County woman reported Monday she had been sexually assaulted by a uniformed deputy sheriff. The alleged assault happened about midnight Saturday.
