Practice makes perfect was the premise for the K-9 officer training session held Wednesday by the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department.

The session included drills to reinforce processes for K-9 searches, agility training and bite work.

“Dogs learn basically by repetition. There’s certain things we ask (the K-9 officers) to do and we train them to do and we have to keep them proficient at doing those things,” TAPD Cpl. John Gibbert said. “In order for them to keep proficient, we have to get the dogs out here because they don’t use those skills every day.”
