Election lawsuit dropped

A Texarkana, Texas, City Council member and six other plaintiffs have agreed to dismiss a lawsuit against the state alleging election laws governing absentee ballots are unconstitutional.

The suit stemmed from accusations of criminal misconduct against Willie Ray and her granddaughter, Jamillah Johnson, in connection with absentee voting. Ray and Johnson were alleged to have violated a 2003 provision in the election code that states that individuals helping elderly or disabled voters with their absentee ballots must sign the envelope containing the ballot.
