Bomb squad called to detonate explosives

Ben Lomond, Ark., rocked about 6 p.m. Tuesday when a bomb squad detonated 124 antique blasting caps.

A controlled explosion Tuesday shook Main Street in Ben Lomond, a town with a population of 126 people in southeast Sevier County.

The antique blasting caps were found in the attic of the former Ben Lomond Barber Shop on Tuesday morning, said a report from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.

The blasting caps dated back to at least the 1950s, said Capt. Jason Weaver of the Little Rock Fire Department, who is also a member of the bomb squad.
