Fouke Fire Chief Charles Bennett, who is also a city employee, was driving the city’s mosquito sprayer truck Tuesday when he felt his neck get hot.

He looked back and realized the mosquito sprayer behind the cab was on fire.

The Fouke Volunteer Fire Department was summoned and extinguished the burning sprayer and battery that operates the equipment.

The fire caused extensive damage to the sprayer, which will have to be replaced, Fouke Mayor Terry Purvis said during a City Council meeting Thursday night.
